It’s been a whirlwind of camping fun since our last blog after May Long Weekend, and things are really coming together here at A Stones Throw RV Campground! We have so many exciting updates to share.
Last year, the two main pieces of feedback we received were requests for a pathway around the water and a community fire pit area for gathering. We’re happy to announce that we’ve made significant progress on both!

Pathways
Our guests love fishing and birding around the Ueland Reservoir. We even had a tour this week that got to see three Barn Owls swoop out of a Willow Tree across the water – it was absolutely beautiful! While we initially thought our sheep and cattle trails would be sufficient for exploring, we learned that our guests preferred something a bit more like “city infrastructure”.
So, last fall and this spring, we worked on creating a meandering pine mulch pathway halfway around the water. It’s wonderful to see guests walking hand-in-hand and exploring the nature around us safely.
Be sure to check out our TikTok video for a tour of our new pathway!
@astonesthrowrv Welcome to A Stones Throw RV Campground, a quiet little camping community nestled in Southern Alberta. Join us on a tour of the pathway we developed for our guests around the Ueland Reservoir. Starting at the top of the coulee we journey South and then wander East along our pine mulch pathway. It was about 8:30 in the evening, the sun was just going down and I thought what a beautiful evening to go for a stroll and take a video of our path. To speed up the journey I took the golf cart for a spin. Going as fast as the golf cart could go it was nearly 5 minutes to get to the end of the path! I took a video on my way back that we can post next, we’re so lucky with our big open skies, our sunsets are worthy of a postcard most evenings. No filters, no editing, just a campground guy, an iPhone and a golf cart out on the range 🙂 The last six tours we have had resulted in six new campers moving into A Stones Throw RV Campground. Community Fire Pit
Several guests have suggested a community fire pit . We truly see the strong sense of community that has developed here over the years. Guests genuinely look out for one another – in fact, we haven’t had a single noise complaint yet!
Our guests have formed art and craft groups, hosted games nights, enjoyed Wednesday Wing Nights in Milo, cooked together, and organized dog playdates in the off-leash dog parks. It’s been fantastic to see everyone connecting and enjoying shared interests.

We decided to utilize a large gravel area on our double lot to create a fantastic Community Fire Pit. We surrounded the area with a 5-foot high wind fence from Wind and Sun Protection Inc. in Lethbridge, which is an excellent product. With picnic tables, garbage cans, a water pail, and a fire extinguisher, the only thing left to do was add S’Mores!
To celebrate, we hosted a “S’Mores Night” filled with chocolate and laughter. It was incredibly heartwarming to see nearly the entire campground show up with chairs and chat. We had so much fun that we hosted another event just last week!

Farmers’ Markets Open to the Public
Hosting Farmers’ Markets for our guests has been a must since our first year, and we’re thrilled to see them grow in vendors, variety, and volume in our fourth year! We don’t charge any fees to vendors as it’s our way of promoting local commerce. This year, we’ve opened our gates to the public, inviting the community to enjoy the same wonderful goods our guests love. It’s a win-win, allowing more people to support local businesses!
Markets are held on the Saturday of each long weekend from 1 PM to 3 PM. Our next market is this coming Saturday, August 30th, and our last market of the season will be on September 13th, 2025.

Community Garden
Our Community Garden has grown (pun intended) into 32 garden plots this season! Each year offers so many learning lessons for us and for our gardening guests. I’ve come to think of gardening as a metaphor for learning and growing.
I say it every year, but you wouldn’t believe what people have grown here! Family meal times often revolve around what can be made from today’s harvest. I took an evening stroll through the Garden the other day and will be posting that video shortly!

Tours
We’ve had six consecutive tours recently, and each one has resulted in someone excited about parking their RV here at A Stones Throw RV Campground. They are drawn by the sense of community that’s growing within our campground. It’s quiet and safe – perhaps not what every camper seeks, but if you want to hear nothing but your own thoughts along with some bird chirps, we are certainly an option for you.
