Hello Camper,
A big event is coming to A Stones Throw RV Campground on September 5th to 8th, we will be hosting our first “Star Party” along with the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC)! We had the chance to talk with them years ago and very pleased to see this come to fruition. This is an annual event for the RASC and they are excited to have us host it this year.
What does this mean for the campground? We will be hosting paid ticket holders to visit and camp in the campground taking advantage of our incredible night sky.
There are two ways campground guests can participate in the event. We’re told several large telescopes will be set up viewing different areas of our solar system. We agreed to host this event because it gives an educational opportunity for our guests to see what they are viewing. Should you want to get more involved guests are able to purchase a ticket through Eventbrite to also participate in their RASC pancake breakfast, speakers, and prizes.

To best accomodate our night sky viewers we are going to do our best to let the campground go dark. This will not affect campground security as all camera’s have night vision. We ask that all outside lighting is shut off during this time which includes RV lights, outside solar and LED lights. All bathroom lights will be covered with red film to minimize the blue light spectrum which inhibits night vision. If you need some red film to cover lights please let us know.
We are learning as we go, and thus far we will focus astronomers to Park F and Park D though it is possible other sites in the campground will be occupied. If you see a telescope feel free to stop by and say hi, see what they are looking at.
As we learn more information we will certainly let you know! Let us know your thoughts!
Happy Camping Everyone!
