A Stones Throw Community Run for the Terry Fox Foundation

Colin Monner

Nearly 40 years ago our family got to participate in the Milo Community Terry Fox Run for the first time. Since then the Community of Milo has raised more for the Terry Fox Run than anywhere else in all of Canada per capita, more than once! A few years ago the Community of Milo raised more than the City of Red Deer! I think it says a lot about the spirit of this community. It is why we call this place home, it’s why we decided to develop A Stones Throw RV Campground here introducing over 150 families to this rural gem of an area in Southern Alberta.

We feel that by introducing people to our community we are creating commerce and support for local families and businesses. When we started our business we reached out to the Terry Fox Foundation asking what we could do as a business to support their cause. If there is a charity that we want to wave a flag for, it’s Terry’s flag. We have the opportunity to introduce and support the Terry Fox Run to our campers, their friends and family, and those new to our Milo community.

The Milo Community School does an amazing job every year with the students and families raising funds for cancer research. Last week the Milo Lions Club got to serve their annual dose of hotdogs and hamburgers to the Terry Fox Run participants at the Milo Community School, they raised nearly $8,000 (so far) this year. A Stones Throw RV Campground would like to offer a second opportunity to participate in the Terry Fox Run open to the Community of Milo. Anything raised all goes towards the same charity number that Milo has had for decades.

Please join us on Saturday, October 10th on the beginning of the Thanksgiving Long Weekend to come out to A Stones Throw RV Campground and participate in our first Terry Fox Run. We wanted a time close to the Milo Community School run, on a weekend when people are not working, and the Saturday of the Long Weekend might bring some families together who want to participate. I hope your family can make this an annual event and remember those who we’ve lost to cancer, and fight for those beating the odds. Cancer has touched us all one way or another, together we can make a difference.

You can register on-line:https://run.terryfox.ca/team/astonesthrow or you can get a pledge sheet from the Campground Store/Office. To ensure tax receipts are seamless, a full address/email will need to be filled out for each pledge. The registration table will be open at 9:00 where participants will need to sign a waiver and drop off completed pledges.

Date: Saturday, October 10th, 2026

The event will run through the campground and along the south half of the Ueland Reservoir and back to the Community Fire Pit where Water and Ice Cream is available for participants 🙂

Warm regards,

The Monner Family
