A Big Thank You from A Stones Throw RV Campground

Colin Monner

I wanted to give shout out to my father-in-law Brian and his family. At first you might think I’m being a butt kisser and I get it. But as far as in-laws go, our family won the lotto getting to introduce the Lamb family to our farm. The level of care and help that they have provided has been truly astounding and frankly it makes me pretty emotional when I get thinking about how much they have assisted us in making A Stones Throw RV Campground a reality. I’m afraid to list off everything as the list is getting long!!!

To highlight some of the campground’s bigger projects that we have undertaken include making our own fire pits and pictured is a guy who helped us to grind and grind some more to ensure sharp edges were smooth for the kids. We’re making our own park benches and grind some more he did! Also pictured is the uncoiling of the 1” lines that were laid into 8’ deep trenches and yes he helped us to dig those too.
Yes we at A Stones Throw RV Campground are making our own benches :)
Pictured is my Father and my Father-in-Law. My dad is a pretty handy guy in the garage, we’re making almost everything ourselves from fire pits to benches and gates. Welding is just one step of the process, steel must be measured and cut, edges ground and made smooth. It all takes time and we could not do it all alone!
Fire pits are included with every site at A Stones Throw RV Campground!
We wanted to supply a fire pit at each site, so we cut 24″ pipe and plasma cut out 6 vent holes in each one. We then ground off any sharp edges or burrs which was no small task! To help ensure kids safety Brian spent so much time grinding cut edges to make them smooth. We made 170 fire pits and at times it seemed like an endless job, but then half were done, and then only a quarter to go, and then… done!!!
1" Water Line Unspooled - Deep Water Services are Done and Done!
Digging a 8 foot deep trench is one thing, unspooling waterline and not backing up into a tree… somewhat more difficult! All deep water trenches were dug to 8 feet in depth, 3″ water lines, 2″ and 1″ lines have been laid and buried bringing water to the three buildings and irrigation for the community garden and the whole campground!
Over 200 incredible Green and Blue Spruce arrived this spring and the amount of help we received from family was incredible, the conditions were not always favourable but we got it done! After that we planted over 150 potted trees and bushes with over 600 holes now prepped and ready for more!  It’s no small task to plant and keep these watered until our drip irrigation system is operational, we couldn’t have done it without him.
36" Basket Tree Planting Party at A Stones Throw RV Campground Planting over 200 Colorado Green and Blue Spruce Trees!
Did we get wet? Yes. Did we get cold? Yes! Did we get it done? Of Course! A huge thank you to everyone! Rain or snow we have boots on the ground, never an excuse for not making progress!
Brian Plants a Oak Tree, A Stones Throw RV Campground's first Oak tree has been planted!
A Stones Throw RV Campground is planting over 50 species for starters creating what will mature into a museum of trees or “Arboretum”. The water truck in the background is ready to give our trees a fresh drink of water from the reservoir!
1 of 5 Oaks that have been planted in 2021, they are magnificent!
We love our trees! It’s not easy work but it’s fun getting to do something that will benefit generations to come! We’re so excited to plant over 50 species in our first year with future planting plans for years to come! So many plans! I’m a lucky guy having a father-in-law like this guy, his enthusiasm and positivity is contagious, always a pleasure working with Brian!
We do the mowing if there is mowing to be had!
It can be dusty work but it’s also instant gratification! With nearly 50 acres under development there is no shortage of grass to be mowed around A Stones Throw RV Campground. With 5 drought tolerant varieties seeded 80 bushels per acre… we’ve minimized water loss and mowing!
Though quick to help out with the campground’s big projects it’s also all of the little things that this guy does on a daily basis helping out with the kids, pricing things out, picking things up, keeping an eye on things, and the list goes on… so many things!!!
Thank You Brian and the whole Lamb Family from A Stones Throw RV Campground!!!
