Come Out for a Tour

Colin Monner

Hello Camper,

Welcome to another blog update from A Stones Throw RV Campground. We have had our fourth May Long Weekend as a campground and the weather was typical for Southern Alberta, all four seasons wrapped into one day 🙂 The grass is green, leaves are bursting out of buds, and the lilacs are in flower, it’s a magical time of the year.

During the winter and early spring we are busy at trade shows introducing the campground to new people. A lot of folks get quite excited to hear about us because they thought camping was behind them. Hauling an RV around braving the highways, setting it up, putting it into storage again does not get easier with age. It’s not due to a lack of loving the outdoors or failing to enjoy the RV, it is the frustration and anxiety from having to move an RV around.

Following trade shows we get a lot of interest and future tours. Opening on May 1st is pretty early for camping, it froze the other night and we have one more week until the end of May! With longer days and the warmth of the sun campers awake in their urban burrows eager to breath the fresh air of the prairies. The tours have begun! Three sites reserved in the last three days!!!

For a lot of people “seasonal” camping has never been on the radar. “Where were you when we sold our trailer?” is often a reply. You would be surprised how many people come out for a tour, pick a location, and then heads out to buy an RV to park here. They like the sense of community we have created, the peace and quiet, and being gated and secure.

We get multiple calls every day inquiring about the campground. Following those calls we soon book a tour either that same day or an upcoming weekend. People are always surprised how large our development is when they arrive, you can’t see one end to the other. If you would like to book a tour please visit our website at www.AStonesThrowRV.ca or call 403-669-9443 and we would be happy to chat.

We’re delighted to welcome you to your home away from home here at A Stones Throw RV Campground! You’ll find our welcome sign located near the front gate as you arrive. We believe that visits from family and friends are an important part of the camping experience. That’s why we don’t charge for day guests, visitors, tents, or additional people staying with you. Your loved ones are welcome to visit without any extra fees, whether they’re stopping by or staying a while. We also happily welcome your furry friends and golf carts, all without any additional charges. We strive to be as all-inclusive as possible so you can focus on enjoying your time with us. We look forward to making your stay a memorable one!

We’re excited to share some of the wonderful features our campground offers. Our guests enjoy access to over ten acres of private water, perfect for kayaking, paddle-boarding, and canoeing – your equipment will get plenty of use! We recently installed our first floating docks last week, and we’re looking forward to adding three more on the other side of the dam later this year. For those who enjoy fishing, our reservoir has been stocked with over 2,000 fish, and we continue to add new stock each year from Smoky Lake Trout Farm. Nature enthusiasts will also appreciate the diverse wildlife here. We were thrilled to host a group of birders recently who spotted over 34 different bird species around the water and campground, not even counting the ducks! Great Blue Herons, Pelicans, Canada Geese, and many duck species all make their home here. We hope you’ll come and experience it for yourself!

Our entire 40-acre property at A Stones Throw RV Campground is enclosed by an 8-foot high deer fence. When we were building it, we used railway ballast as the stone to secure the 365 fence posts into the ground. While shovelling the ballast, we’d often come across pieces of railway iron, most commonly railway spikes, like the one pictured above. We started a little tradition: every time we found a spike, we’d make a wish and toss it into the post hole before tamping it down with more stone. It sounds a bit whimsical, but it actually brought a smile to everyone’s face, no matter how tired we were. It was a little reminder that we were creating something really special here. A lot of thought, care, and wishes have gone into the development of our campground.
