Lots of Tours follow after our Tradeshow Season!

Colin Monner

Hi,

Welcome to A Stones Throw RV Campground Blog where we get to chat about the campground development, our learning lessons, camping related topics and more. This is our 40th article, where has the time gone? Time fly’s when your having fun???

We have concluded our “Tradeshow Season” with the Okotoks Trade and Lifestyle Show the other weekend. Before that was the Lethbridge Home, Garden & Leisure Show, Calgary Home & Garden Show, and of course the Calgary RV Expo. Later this Fall we get to attend the Brooks Trade and Lifestyle show! We chat with hundreds of people at shows each year and the first question is always the same… “where in the heck are you guys”? We’re noticing that more and more people are starting to recognize our name which is great!

The Special Guest at the Southern Alberta Home, Garden and Leisure Show in Lethbridge this year was the Village of Milo’s international celebrity What? Nooo Waaay? guy Shaun Umscheid! It was really nice of him to stop by our booth to say hi, I have not seen the guy in years! Growing up in the community of Milo, Shaun was a happy, positive, outgoing kid who lived down the road and now he’s internationally known on YouTube and Social Media channels. Fun Fact: The official “What? Nooo Waaay!” Store is in Vulcan, Alberta if you find yourself in the neighbourhood be sure to stop by or check them out online at www.whatnooowaaay.com for merch and more!

Our campground is unique being 100% annual lease, seasonal only. The whole campground is surrounded by a 8 foot high deer fence so dogs and kids can only run away so far but also keep the deer from eating our ever growing selection of trees and bushes. A guaranteed question regularly asked is “are there any trees there?” and I say “they are growing”! In fact over 700 trees and bushes have been planted thus far with over 100 added every year. Over 17 km of drip line has been trenched within the campground to sustain our ambitious arboretum plans.

A Stones Throw RV Campground is gated with a keypad, the only people coming in are our guests. There is no signage on the highway, we are not for everybody so why wave a flag to everyone? We are a hidden gem of a quiet little camping community and we like it that way! If you know where we are, then you are one of the lucky few!

Now entering our 4th season we are yet to increase our rates. Our power pedestals are metered so our guests only pay for what they consume, not what everyone else consumes. A lot of campgrounds go up in price each year trying to keep up with utilities that are often used and abused when they are unlimited. We are fostering a sense of community out here, we get to know our guests quite well and we did not want to set ourselves up having to be the bearer of bad news annually with how much more we are charging. Our price is our price whether it is 2022, or 2025.

A Stones Throw RV Campground is proud to support Halo Air Ambulance, they have saves many lives within the County of Vulcan. It’s worth going to the Home, Garden and Leisure Show in Lethbridge just to see their booth and enter their 50/50 draw! Visit www.haloairambulance.com for more information!

Our two best complements we’ve consistently had over the last 3 years is how peaceful and quiet it is out here, and how clean we keep our facilities. Some guests have told us our bathrooms are cleaner than their own at home! It’s not without effort but we take great pride in keeping things spotless so guests can feel at home. Our campground can boast about our heated washhouses, instant hot water, flush toilets and spacious counters.

The complementary laundry room and washhouses provide guests the opportunity to make the most out of their potable water and keep it out of grey tanks. One a weekly basis upon request we offer potable water delivery and pump-out services to campsites. We have created a business model on accountability, everything is available to everyone, but if someone wants to plug in a 1950’s fridge outside they can be responsible for that expense, not the campground or our other guests.

When we attend a Tradeshow we like to visit other vendors and this year we met so many local artists and businesses that are interested in our Farmer’s Markets which we host each long weekend. The Store/Office provides shelf space as well, the goal of our invest was to provide commerce for our community and it’s exciting to see our goals becoming a reality.

Off-leash dog parks are not all that common in campgrounds. A Stones Throw RV Campground is about as pet friendly as they come, we have nearly 5 acres of fenced and gated dog parks for our guests, everyone has a fur baby!

Why not book a tour and come out to see for yourself why we are such a special campground in Southern Alberta.
